Why Choose Kids Martial Arts?

Martial arts offers children far more than a physical workout. For many parents, it's the activity that finally brings out a child's confidence, focus and self-control — both on the mats and in everyday life.

At Kings Academy, our kids' classes are built around four core martial arts: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, Boxing and Wrestling. Each teaches different skills — grappling, striking, takedowns and self-control — giving your child a well-rounded foundation rather than just one style.

Kids martial arts helps children develop:

  • 🧠 Confidence and self-belief
  • 🎯 Focus and concentration
  • 🤝 Respect for coaches, training partners and themselves
  • 💪 Coordination, strength and overall fitness
  • 🛡️ Practical self-defence skills
  • 🏆 Discipline and a strong work ethic
  • 😊 Resilience — learning to get back up, try again and keep improving
  • 👫 Friendships within a genuinely supportive community

Many of our parents tell us the changes they notice outside the academy - at school, at home and in how their child handles setbacks - are just as valuable as the martial arts skills themselves.

Kids Martial Arts Programs & Age Groups

Every child progresses differently, so our classes are grouped by age to keep training safe, appropriate and genuinely enjoyable.

Ages 3–5: Little Champions (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu)

Our youngest students begin with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, taught through fun, playful movement-based games. At this age, the focus is on listening skills, balance, coordination and following instructions — building the foundation for structured training as they grow.

Ages 6–12: Junior Program (BJJ, Muay Thai, Boxing & Wrestling)

Our most popular age group trains across all four disciplines — Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, Boxing and Wrestling. Kids can focus on one style or combine several, building grappling skills, striking technique and takedowns while developing coordination, discipline and confidence. Our structured grading syllabus gives children clear goals to work towards, keeping them motivated class after class.

Ages 13+: Teens Program (Teens BJJ and All Adult Classes)

Teenagers train alongside our adult beginner classes, with coaches adjusting instruction to suit their age and experience. It's the natural next step for junior students progressing through the ranks, and a great starting point for teens new to martial arts.

What to Expect in Your Child's First Class

Bringing your child to their first martial arts class can feel like a big step — for both of you. Here's what to expect at Kings Academy:

  • A warm welcome. Our coaches will introduce themselves, explain the format of the class and help your child feel comfortable from the moment they arrive.
  • A structured, age-appropriate class. Warm-up games, skill drills and supervised practice, all paced to suit your child's age group.
  • A low coach-to-student ratio. Kids get genuine individual attention rather than getting lost in a large class.
  • No pressure, no comparison. Every child learns at their own pace. Coaches encourage effort and improvement, not perfection.
  • A confident, happy kid at pick-up. Most parents notice their child leaves smiling, tired in the best way, and asking when they can come back.

What to Bring

  • 👕 Comfortable clothing (T-shirt, shorts or activewear)
  • 💧 A water bottle
  • 🧺 A small towel
  • 😊 A willingness to give it a go — no experience or equipment required for your first class

ABOUT KIDS BJJ, MUAY THAI, BOXING, AND WRESTLING

Building Confidence That Lasts a Lifetime

Confidence isn't something children are born with, it's something they earn.

Every class gives students opportunities to learn new skills, overcome challenges and celebrate achievements. As they progress through our structured grading system, children develop genuine self-belief that carries into school, sports and everyday life.

Children who train consistently often become more willing to try new things, speak up in class and tackle challenges with a positive attitude.

Teaching Respect, Discipline and Focus

Martial arts provides children with clear structure, positive role models and achievable goals.

Our instructors teach every student the importance of:

  • Respect for others
  • Self-discipline
  • Responsibility
  • Good manners
  • Listening skills
  • Self-control

These values extend well beyond the mats, helping children become more focused at school and more respectful at home.

Practical Self-Defence Without Encouraging Bullying

Our goal isn't to teach children to fight.

Our goal is to teach them how to protect themselves, remain calm under pressure and make smart decisions when faced with difficult situations.

Children learn awareness, confidence and effective self-defence skills while understanding that martial arts should always be used responsibly and respectfully.

Ironically, confident children are often less likely to become targets for bullying.

Improving Fitness While Having Fun

Instead of spending more time on screens, children stay active through exciting classes that naturally improve:

  • Strength
  • Balance
  • Coordination
  • Agility
  • Flexibility
  • Fitness
  • Motor skills

Every lesson is designed to keep children engaged while developing healthy habits they'll carry throughout their lives.

A Complete Martial Arts Education

Unlike many martial arts schools that teach only one style, Kings Academy gives children the opportunity to learn a complete range of martial arts.

Our Kids programs include:

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) - Builds confidence, problem-solving skills, body control and effective ground self-defence.

Muay Thai Kickboxing - Develops coordination, balance, fitness, discipline and controlled striking techniques.

Boxing - Improves hand-eye coordination, speed, footwork, reflexes and cardiovascular fitness.

Wrestling - Teaches takedowns, balance, athleticism, body control and determination while developing outstanding overall movement.

Together, these styles help children become well-rounded martial artists with skills that continue into their teenage and adult years.

What Do Our Parents Think?

Here are some Google Reviews from Kings Academy Parents and what they think about the training for their child.

Daniel Thai

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Can't say enough good things about Kings Academy! From our very first chat with Nathan, we felt supported straight away, and that's never changed.

They're super understanding about membership freezes too. Whether it be holidays, injuries, clashing extracurriculars, whatever it is, they just get it. My son's got heaps of training partners, and the parent community is honestly just as great as the coaches.

Big shoutout to all the coaches! Jeshua, Charles, and especially Simon who coaches my son and has been awesome with him. My son does both the teens and adults classes, and everyone's been super welcoming of him training alongside the adults. They also push the kids to get out and compete, which I think is one of the best ways to really test what they've learnt on the mats.

If you're looking for a BJJ gym, do yourself a favor and check out Kings Academy. Highly recommended!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I have been taking my 10yo son here every day for one week only, but I’ve never seen him more excited and looking forward to something that involves him doing exercise.

The coach to student ratio is unbelievable (4 coaches for 13 kids last BJJ lesson) it feels almost like private lessons.

The staff are friendly and you can see they care about actually passing on their skills to the kids. Money well spent.

Carmen Crawt

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Have my 9yo son training there since he was 6 and he absolutely loves it. His confidence along with independence has grown and is thriving. Coaches and staff are great with kids all ages, patient but firm. Will be signing my daughter up once she is of age.

Parents and Kids Code of Conduct

Dear Parents and Guardians,

At Kings Academy of Martial Arts, we are committed to providing a safe, disciplined, and positive training environment for all our junior students.

The following policies and procedures have been developed to ensure the safety, focus, and well-being of every child. We ask all parents and guardians to support and follow these guidelines.

The policies are as follows:

  • Children aged 3–5 years attending classes must remain with their parents or guardians until class time. They are not permitted on the mats before class begins. Once class commences, please walk your child to the mats, clean their feet using the foot bath or wipes, and place their shoes and water bottles on the appropriate racks.
  • Children aged 6–12 years who are on the mats before class begins must not touch any gym equipment. They are to sit patiently against the wall and wait for their session to start.
  • Children arriving with bags must leave their bags in the designated bagging area upstairs and bring only their training equipment downstairs.
  • Everyone (except coaches) must place their shoes on the rack before cleaning their feet and entering the mats.
  • Parents and guardians must remain in the designated viewing zones: either upstairs in the viewing area or outside near the coffee machine.
  • Parents and guardians must not call out to or distract children who are training. If you need your child’s attention, please speak to the admin staff who will assist you.
  • Aggressive, abusive, or inappropriate behaviour by parents or guardians will not be tolerated. Any breach may result in the cancellation of your child’s membership and you being asked to leave the premises.
  • No children are permitted in the ring, cage, or weights room.
  • Filming or photographing of children by parents or other adults during class is strictly prohibited. This policy protects the privacy and safety of all our young athletes.

These policies are in place for important safety and operational reasons. If you would like any explanation or have questions, please speak to our admin team at any time.

We truly appreciate your cooperation and support in maintaining the high standards that make Kings Academy a great place for children to train and grow.

Kind regards,

Kings Academy

  • Can my child try a class before enrolling?

Yes. We offer a FREE 1 Week Trial so your child can experience a class, meet our coaches and see if it's the right fit - with no obligation to continue.

  • What Styles do you teach for Kids?

We have classes in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu(BJJ), Muay Thai, Boxing, and Wrestling for our Kids classes.

We have qualified and experienced coaches who's priority is to ensure your child gets the best quality and technical instruction.

  • What age can my child start martial arts?

Our Kids Martial Arts programs are designed for different age groups to ensure children learn in a safe, structured and age-appropriate environment.

    We currently offer:

3–5 years: Kids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

6–12 years: Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, Boxing and Wrestling

13 years and over: Teen and Adult classes

Grouping students by age and ability allows our coaches to provide instruction that is engaging, enjoyable and suited to each stage of development.

  • What is the best style for Kids?

There is no best style. We believe that a combination of striking and grappling is best for children. We do recommend BJJ for younger kids as the movements are more natural and easier to learn as grappling comes as second nature to most children.

  • Is Martial Arts Safe for Kids?

Yes. Our kids' classes are structured, supervised and age-appropriate, with a low coach-to-student ratio so every child receives close attention.

Coaches teach proper technique and safe training habits from day one, and contact is introduced gradually and always under supervision.

Children are never pushed beyond their comfort level, and our focus is on building skills and confidence safely, not intensity.

  • What will my Child learn?

Your Child will learn the skills of either Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai Kickboxing, Wrestling or Boxing depending on the classes that they attend. We have a structured format to our classes. Our BJJ and Muay Thai classes also have a grading syllabus which gives your children goals and incentives to keep training and continue learning.

  • What benefits will my Child get from training?

The benefits are numerous when training in Martial Arts. Your child will gain confidence, respect, courtesy, and discipline along with all the physical benefits such as improved strength, endurance, flexibility and fitness.

  • Why should I train at Kings Academy?

Kings Academy has one of the best reputations for developing children. Our aim is to not only develop world class Martial Artists but also confident driven Adults who are productive members of our community. We will teach your child World Class martial arts skills, while building their confidence and self esteem as they improve their physicality.

  • My child has never done martial arts. Is that okay?

Absolutely. Many children join Kings Academy with no previous martial arts experience.

Our beginner-friendly classes focus on learning fundamental skills in a fun, encouraging and supportive environment. Our experienced coaches help every child progress at their own pace while building confidence, coordination and a love of learning.

  • Will martial arts help my child's confidence?

Yes. One of the biggest benefits parents notice is increased confidence.

As children learn new skills, achieve grading milestones and overcome challenges, they develop greater self-belief and resilience. Martial arts also teaches respect, discipline and perseverance, helping children become more confident both inside and outside the academy.

  • Does my child have to compete?

    No. Competition is completely optional.

Most children train simply to improve their fitness, confidence, coordination and self-defence skills while having fun and making new friends. For those who are interested in competing, our experienced coaches can provide additional guidance and support when they are ready.

  • What should my child wear to their first class?

For your child's first class, simply dress them in comfortable sports clothing that allows them to move freely.

There's no need to purchase a uniform before attending. Once your child decides to continue training, our team can help you choose the appropriate uniform and equipment for their chosen martial art.

  • Can parents watch the classes?

Yes. We welcome parents to watch their child's first class and see how our programs are run.

Watching your child train gives you the opportunity to meet our coaches, understand our teaching approach and see the positive environment we've created at Kings Academy.

We have a dedicated mezzanine area just for parents to watch their children, while still giving coaches the ability to manage classes without kids being distracted by parents mat side.

  • How often should my child train?

For most children, training two to three times per week provides an excellent balance between learning new skills, building confidence and maintaining enthusiasm.

As children become more experienced, many choose to attend additional classes to continue progressing through the grading system and develop their skills further.

  • How long does it take to earn the next belt?

Every child progresses at their own pace.

Advancement through our grading system is based on consistent attendance, technical development, effort and attitude rather than simply the amount of time spent training. Our structured grading programs provide achievable goals that help keep children motivated throughout their martial arts journey.

  • Can martial arts help children with focus and discipline?

Yes. Martial arts is well known for helping children develop focus, discipline and self-control through structured classes and consistent practice.

At Kings Academy, children learn to listen carefully, follow instructions, work towards goals and show respect for their coaches and training partners. As they progress through the grading system, they also learn the value of patience, perseverance and personal responsibility.

Many parents tell us they notice improvements in their child's concentration, behaviour and confidence, both at home and at school. While every child is different, the positive habits developed through regular martial arts training can have lasting benefits beyond the academy.

  • Is martial arts suitable for shy or anxious children?

Absolutely. Many children join Kings Academy feeling nervous or lacking confidence, especially when trying a new activity for the first time.

Our experienced coaches create a welcoming and supportive environment where every child is encouraged to learn at their own pace. As children develop new skills, make friends and achieve personal milestones, they often become more confident and comfortable participating in class.

Our goal is to help every child feel included, supported and proud of their progress. We understand that every child is unique, and we work to ensure their martial arts journey is a positive and enjoyable experience from their very first class.

  • How much do kids martial arts classes cost?
