We hope you all had a Happy New Year! Kings is open and our regular class schedule has resumed! Come in and jump on the mat with us and let's start working towards our goals together.



We are COVID Safe

Kings Academy has an up to date COVID Safe Business Plan. We are a registered COVID safe Business. We follow all the government guidelines and recommendations. You can train with the knowledge that we're doing everything to ensure your safety. 

Coach Adam

Coach Adam will be moving on in the new year. We just wanted to thank him fur the great work he's put in during his time here at Kings. He's been an invaluable member of our family and will be dearly missed. Thankfully you'll still get a chance to see him when he comes in to train. We wish Coach Adam all the best with his new endeavours.

New Blue Belt

Congratulations to new Blue Belt Angelo. He's been training and competing consistently and earnt his rank. We look forward to seeing him on the mat with his new rank.

Kings Christmas Party

Thank you to all the staff and students who came and celebrated our end of year Christmas party and Awards ceremony. All our students and staff helped make the atmosphere and culture so great at Kings. Your participation and involvement was a great reflection on Kings and our standing in the community. We had a great year culminating in the Team Championship at Grappling Industries. We hope to make next year an even bigger and better year and we can't do it without all of you!

Grappling Industries

On Sunday December 3rd 2023 Grappling Industries had their largest Sydney event at the Whitlam Centre in Liverpool and Kings Academy sent a team of Kids, Teens, and Adult Competitors. Congratulations to all the students who competed and gave it their all to gain some valuable experience. Thanks to all the great performances by all our students Kings Academy claimed the number one Club Medal in the Adults Gi and NoGi divisions. The kids and teens did great, winning more medals than the 3rd place team but falling to 4th because they had more competitors. A big thank you to all our coaches that came out and coached, this wouldn't be possible without your support. It was a big day and a great result and we're looking forward to the next event. See you all back on the mats!

Showdown XVI

Well done to all the Kings fighters on giving their best at Showdown fight show. Congratulations to Riza and Josh on first round rear naked come submissions,  and Luke with a unanimous decision dominating all 3 rounds. Spiro lost a split decision to a more experienced fighter and gained valuable experience. We look forward to seeing them all back at the gym and their next fights.

Level Up

Congratulations to Coach Nathan on earning his Black Belt and to Coach Peter on earning his Purple Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Coach Nathan has shown great character that exemplifies a Black Belt, he's a great student always willing to learn,  a great coach with with patience and a desire to share his knowledge, a great person and member of our community. Coach Peter has shown a desire to learn and continue improving and has recently made great strides in his skills as both a student and coach. Both have earnt their new ranks.

Labor Day Public Holiday

We are closed for regular classes on the Monday Labor Day Public Holiday.

We will be running a 6am BJJ class and Open Mat from 6-8pm.

SHOWDOWN XIV Results

Well done to all our Kings  fighters for giving their best in the cage.  It was a roller coaster night with mixed results. Our debuting fighters Josh and Martin have it their best, but the result didn't match the performance. They both achieved aspects of their training and strategy but fell short in other areas. They'll go back to the drawing board and come back better for it. Our experienced fighters came through with both bringing home the Championship belts. Congratulations to Emma for winning the WKBF Featherweight State Title and Asterios the WKBF Junior Welterweight Mod Thai State Title. We're looking forward to more big things from both these fighters. Now back to training!

Well done to Matty on a tough fight at the Jez Promotions Night of Champions. It wasn't the result he'd worked for,  but after a strong performance and a close fight he's gained valuable experience to take back to the training room and continue to improve.

It's was a big night of action for the Kings Muay Thai team with 7 fights scheduled for Showdown XIII.

Sadly Josh missed out on a match when his opponent pulled out on fight day. Well done to Hank who had a great fight but lost a close decision. Congratulations to Peter, Dylan, and Zadane on winning their fights by decision, great work by Asterios on getting the TKO victory and Rayyan on winning with a KO to the body after a fight of the night backwards and forwards War to claim the NSW State Title.

Class Update

We've made some adjustments to our class schedule. Friday night will now be a NoGi BJJ class run by Coach Nathan. Thursday night will become our BJJ Competition class run by Coach Adam. Make sure you get along to these classes if you want to keep improving your BJJ skills. New classes commence this week!

Welcome to our new BJJ Coach "Baby" Dave Stoilescu who will be teaching the Saturday Advanced BJJ class. Dave is a highly skilled and accomplished Grappler who will bring a lot of new knowledge and insight to our Academy.

Make sure you say hello and introduce yourselves when he joins us this Saturday.

Jiu Jitsu is for everyone

Jiu Jitsu is not fur everyone.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has techniques for everyone regardless of your height, weight,  sex, age, strength, fitness and any other attribute you can think of. Yet Brazilian Jiu Jitsu isn't for everyone because what is required to achieve that is hard work, determination, drive, and dedication. Daniel is someone that has what it takes and he doesn't let his Cerebral Palsy hold him back. He refuses to take the easy way and has demonstrated skills suitable to his physical characteristics to earn the first stripe on his white belt. Looking forward to sharing the journey with him.

Premier Fight Night Results

Well done to Matty and Pete on putting in great performances on the night. Congratulations to Matty on winning a unanimous decision with a great display of skill. Disappointed for Pete leading the fight in the third round and landing a poorly timed kick after dropping his opponent with leg kicks. Great to see the hard training party off. Time to rest and then start again next year.

Make Up Grading

Well done to all the kids and adults who graded in Muay Thai and BJJ in our end of year make up gradings.  Great way to finish the year strong. We're excited to see what 2023 brings!

New Climbing Rope

Congratulations to Akol on a great performance in his exhibition Muay Thai match at Southern Fighting Championships. Never stop sharpening your tools!

HEX FS 24

Well done to Coach Olivia for giving it her all in a tough fight at HEX. Sometimes you have to accept the small victories along with the lessons when you don't achieve your goal. Olivia's striking on the outside was much improved landing the cleaner more effective shots. When she committed to the takedown, she demonstrated how hard she is to stop. The other parts we'll work on improving to bring up to the level of these skills. We know Olivia is already planning her training strategy and we'll be here to support her moving forward. We can't wait to see her next fight and the improvements she'll make.

BJJ Open Rolling

After our BJJ classes on Tuesday and Thursday night we have Open Rolling for our members who can keep rolling until 10pm. Even if you miss the class you can pop in and jump on the mat for our Open Rolling. Keep rolling and keep improving.

Showdown XI and Alta Fight Night
It was a big night for Kings at the Fight Night fielding nearly half the matches on the card. Kings had 8 fighters 7 matches and came away with 4 victories. Well done to Jason, Akol, Martin and Tamer on their wins. Great work by Hank, Todd, Chris and Mark on gaining valuable experience with some of the results not reflecting their performances. We're extremely proud of how all the fighters trained, performed and carried themselves showing that they're all champions regardless of the result.

AFBJJ Nationals

Congratulations to Kings Coach Olivia on winning double Gold at the AFBJJ Nationals in the NoGi division. Coach Olivia teaches our women's only BJJ class on Monday and Tuesday night. Come down and try it out.

IMMAF Junior Worlds

Congratulations to Kings Junior Fighter Riza El Ali on winning his way to the Quarter Finals at the IMMAF Junior World Championships. He didn't get the Gold but put in some great performances and gained some valuable experience. We're looking forward to seeing him progress.

Australian MMA History

21 years ago Chief Instructor Elvis Sinosic made his debut in the UFC against the number one contender Jeremy Horn. Elvis won the match by triangle armbar in 2min 59 sec. Years later Danaher named this position the Dead Elvis. This victory earnt Elvis a shot at the UFC World Light Heavyweight Title. This made Elvis the first Australian to fight and win in the UFC as well as being the first Australian to fight for a UFC World Title.

Congratulations to Kings Wrestling Coach Jayden Lawrence on winning Bronze at the Commonwealth Games.

MMA Cage Series

It was a roller coaster night of action at the Cage fighting in North Sydney. All the fighters gave it their all and we're proud of them stepping and putting it on the line. There were some good performances, groin shots and bad luck with a ton of action. Well done to Jason on winning his Alta match and Daniel on winning the South Pacific Bantamweight Title.  Good job to Peter, Abbas, Martin, and Samir who didn't get the result they trained for but never gave up. We look forward to seeing them all get back on the mat and then back into the cage.

Events BJJ Oceanic Championships

Congratulations to all our Kings  competitors who competed at the Events BJJ Competition on the weekend.

Well done to Zein and Tallis who didn't place but picked up valuable experience. BJJ Competition Registration

Kings Academy is now also registered with the AFBJJ. Due to the confusion when entering AFBJJ events and which Academy/Team to register under we've consolidated our Academy registration so that students will register under Kings Academy for all competition, IBJJF, AFBJJ, Jiujiteros, Grappling Industries, etc. moving forward.

Jiujiteros Newcastle

Well done to Coach Daniel (and our Forza affiliate) for winning Gold in the Black Bent division. We'll done to Josh who won his way to the Quarter finals in the Open division and was able to secure a  bronze medal. Some great experience for both athletes.

Muay Thai NSW Development Day

Well done to Matty on winning his Muay Thai Development Day Sparring match. It's a great experience and a great way to apply the skills you learn in class! It's also required to be able to grade for the higher ranks.

We are BACK!

As of Monday October 11th we will be open again. See below for our member notice on how we will be moving forward.

Dear Member,

After over 3 long months we are excited to FINALLY announce our reopening on October 11 – and wow, have we missed you all! We are so excited to get back to Kings and see all our awesome members again! We know we’ve missed all our members and the great training.

While we’d love nothing more than to see everyone in the gym training, in accordance with the directive of the NSW government, they request that only fully vaccinated members 16+ years and staff return initially. Children under 16 are of course exempt from this requirement.

We know the vaccine isn’t for everyone, however in order to operate, we are required comply with this mandate. The good news is from December 15, 2021, we expect everything to return to normal, so we look forward to seeing everyone then. *Subject to public health Order

What you’ll need to do:

1. Face Masks at entry when checking in to club. If you have an exemption and don’t wear a mask, we will respect your privacy. We request that if someone enquires about your mask that you inform them that you have an exemption. We ask members to respect other members and leave compliance to the staff.

2. Check into Kings Academy at the entrance.

Check In via the Service NSW COVID Safe Check-In. COVID Safe Check In can be done in two (2) ways:

•            Use the QR Code displayed at Club Entry (Smartphone Users)

•            Sign in process at the front desk (Non-Smartphone Users)

3. Have available your COVID-19 Vaccination Record or Medical Exemption if requested.

Payments will recommence on Friday 15/10/21 or 22/10/21 (back to your normal billing cycle). We would like to thank those who supported us while closed. If anyone is concerned about returning to training or is unable to attend for any reason, please contact us and we can freeze your billing for up to 3 months at no charge. Thankfully, given our club is very open and spacious, we can easily accommodate up to 20 people per class, with multiple classes, and up to 200 people in the gym at any given time. Rest assured we will be following the strictest of safety measures and cleaning protocols so you can continue to train with confidence.

For the safety of our members and to comply with government restrictions, we will have the following requirements in place:

1.      No visitors or spectators permitted in the gym. To ensure we are not over capacity, only members attending and training will be permitted into the gym.

2.      Parents can drop off and pick up their children from the car park, but we ask that if you wish to wait, that you do so in the comfort of your car.

3.      Classes will be limited to 20 students (14 students for Yoga) so please make sure you check into your class via the Whitebelt app prior to attending. We can run multiple classes simultaneously so don’t be concerned about missing out on your class as we have sufficient space and instructors to comply.

4.      We are following all the NSW Government requirements and will do everything we can to ensure your safety in returning to training, so please don’t be concerned.

5.      We ask that students leave discussions about the current COVID climate for outside the gym. We respect everyone’s thoughts and opinions, but we’d like to focus on training as it’s been over 3 months and we think focussing on the positive is the best way to move forward.

6.      If there are any changes to the government restrictions we will let you know via our website news page, https://www.kingsacademy.com.au/news, email or SMS. We’re hoping to see more lifted sooner rather than later.

Lockdowns Extended

Lockdowns have been extended by the NSW Government. Kings will continue to extend the freeze on existing memberships for the duration of lockdown. Once we have a firm date of when lockdowns will be lifted we will be able to confirm a recommencment date for restarting classes. Until then stay safe and healthy and we look forward to seeing you back at training in the near future.

Latest COVID Update!

Due the NSW Government restriction on outdoor classes as of 5pm Friday 9th July all our outdoor training sessions have been cancelled. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause our members but we are required to follow the NSW Government requirements. We look forward to recommencing clases once the lockdowns are lifted.

We've frozen everyone's memberships and we will reactivate any who are able and wish to keep their membership active for the duration of lockdown. COVID Outdoor Training Classes - Members Only CANCELLED!

We will be freezing all our members memberships for the duration of lockdown.

In line with governement restrictions we will be doing the following:

Our Coaches will be running outdoor training sessions in our rear carpark.

As our sessions are in the undercover outdoor area classes will be on rain, hail or shine.

You can book your classes via the app. You can attend any class regardless what your current membership is.

If you're having problems booking just show up. First in, first booked. Once classes are full they will be closed.
The Cost will be $15/session or $75/unlimited for ten days (until July 9th).
You can also nominate to keep your membership active during Lockdown instead.

If lockdown is extended we will make adjustments as required.

Classes will commence from Wednesday 30th June.

New COVID Policies

Hey guys we are now required to have a COVID Marshall on site. They will be wearing lanyard and/or a hi-vis vest. If the Marshall asks you to do something please do not argue and ensure you do as requested. Their word is final.

We are also to ensuring that we are adhering to the capacity requirments and we will have signs up indicating how many people are permitted in each area. Please ensure you adhere to these numbers. If the area is full please do not enter the area.

We also ask that members don't loiter around before or after their classes. I know we have always encouraged socialisation before and after class to develop our community but due to COVID reqruirements we're unable to do this at the moment.

Class attendance. Now at the start of each class the sliding doors will be locked. Anyone coming late will be required to wait at the door to be processed by our COVID Marshall. If you turn up more than 10 minutes late you won't be permitted to do the class. Please make sure you turn up on time.

We understand this may cause some inconvenince but we hope you understand and follow our requests. We do our best to ensure yours and our communities safety.

Teens BJJ Class

Our Teens BJJ class no longer runs on Tuesday and Thursday. We have now moved the class to Monday and Wednesday's at 6pm. The timetable and booking system has been updated online. See you on the Mat! 

Sydney Hot Yoga is Crazy!

Our Hot Yoga classes are going crazy. They're booking out a week in advance. To ensure members are getting access to they Hot Yoga sessions we've added even more classes. We've added Monday night 7pm, Tuesday night 6pm and Friday night 7pm. See below for our full schedule with classes 7 days a week!

Monday 6am, 930am, 7pm & 8pm

Tuesday 6pm, 7pm & 8pm

Wednesday 930am, 7pm & 8pm

New Member Software!

We have now installed new member and class booking software. We are using the Whitebelt software to manage our members and classes. To attend class you must pre-book via the Whitebelt app or the Whitebelt website (link below).

Hi members,

You may have been receiving emails from WhiteBelt with either membership payments or login information, please do not be alarmed, we are just transitioning to a new club management system. 

Our new system WhiteBelt will allow us to have students book in for classes in advance, this is essential as we reopen with limited class numbers.

Bookings will be done via the Whitebelt Mobile App, there are two versions, mobile and passport. Both are able to be used to book in, we recommend the mobile version for now as it has more functions.

You would have received an email from White Belt with login details, please check your inbox or junk folder if you missed it. 

If you don’t have the email for whatever reason please use the forgot your password function to reset your password. 

Once you login, please double check your information, making sure your address is current, as well as phone and email address. For some members you will need to fix your date of birth as well.

Parents can book in for multiple children without having to login and out of different accounts, if you have any issues with it please let me know and I’ll try correct it. As this system is new for all of us please be patient, as everyone familiarise themselves with it.

Mandatory Closures

Due to the newly imposed government regulations Kings Academy will be suspending all classes. Following the announcement by the Prime Minister last night, gyms and indoor sports facilities will be required to shutdown until further notice.

Kings will be monitoring the situation closely and as soon as legislation to operate safely is in place, we will let all our members know. We will be sending out information to our existing members regarding their memberships via email/SMS/Facebook to provide them with options during this period of closure.

We will also be providing online content for our all our members during this time. We will contact our members directly with the details once our online content is available.

We hope all our members and family are safe and healthy and remain so during this difficult period.

Coronva Virus Update 

Here at Kings we have been watching the situation carefully and paying attention to government recommendations.

We recommend that members remain home and self isolate if they have been traveling, have any symptoms of illness, live/come in contact with the elderly/infirm or if they have any concerns over transmission. For our members who stay away from training we will be providing live access to all our classes via the Zoom app and a link will be provided each day in our private group so they can still stay up to date with our instruction. Follow this link to setup an account https://zoom.us/ and then install the app on your phone or login via your computer. 

We will continue our high standard cleanliness by cleaning the mats daily and even doing so multiple times a day in between sessions. We have touchless soap in the bathrooms, touchless hand sanitisers by the mat (a requirement for entering the training area), touchless soap & hand sanitiser upstairs, Deodorising/Sanitising spray dispensers in the bathrooms, overnight Ozone treatment of the whole facility. 

We suggest all members take the time to review their diet, a healthy diet provides a healthy individual, look at recommended supplements to improve immune health, drink plenty of water, and follow good hygiene habits. As we have always said at Kings, if you look after yourself, you look after your training partners.

Overnight Celebrity

Watch Tom in Action 

Tom has recently become and overnight Social Media celebrity. A video he was featured in has gone viral across the BJJ Social Media community. The video show Tom competing at a recent Grappling Industries BJJ tournament where he put his opponent to sleep with a NoGi Baseball choke. This shows the amazing versatility of BJJ when a person, in what appears to be an extremely disadvantageous position, is able to snatch victory with a skillfully applied submission.

International Recognition 

Kings Academy receiving international recognition for the the fantastic World Championship performance of Riza El Ali at the UAEJJF World Championship where he won Gold.  Riza El Ali is one of Kings two Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) Junior World Champions.

New Classes:

BJJ Competition training Tuesday Morning 11am and Friday night at 8pm. For those looking to improve their competition skills come down to our new BJJ Competition class. For both  regular competitors and those looking to start their competition career. Any Machado affiliate is welcome to attend our competition classes. 

Open mat classes on Thursday at 6am. These classes, along with our Sunday 9am and 6pm Open mat classes, are open to students of any affiliation. 

Open Mat : 

Our Sunday morning Open Mat has become very popular with lots of monsters on the mat doing killer rounds. Our Open Mat is open to all styles, all affiliations and all ranks. Just a $10 mat fee for non-members. If you're not doing anything on a Sunday or you're looking for some extra mat time before work then pop on down for a great session. Times are 9am-11am and 6pm-8pm on Sunday and 6am-7am Thursday.  Kings has a full facility with mats, heavy bags, cage, ring, gym and sauna that are all available for use during Open mat. 

Early Morning Training:

Our 6am classes are becoming very popular. With people looking for a boost to start the day or wanting to get their training done before work so they can go home and relax afterwards the 6am classes are perfect. We have both male and female showers so you can go straight to work if you don't have time to go home and change. Keep these classes in mind if your situation every changes.
